Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's budget cuts could mean the closing of up to 220 state parks.

Schwarzenegger recommended this week the elimination of $70 million in parks spending through June 30, 2010.

An additional $143.4 million would be saved in the following fiscal year by keeping the parks closed.

If a park is closed, it will be put on caretaker status. This means the California State Park Department will try to preserve the park as best as possible, but it won't be open to the public, Krueper said.
