It's really good to get real stats Ken, thanx.
I have to notice that that is a very small number of solo deaths.
It is 1 in 16 of all deaths and 1/7 the death of 2 person buddy teams.
Just comparing it to the 2 person buddy teams, I would be willing to bet (and will get ripped for it) that more than 1 in 7 dives made were likely to be made by solo divers. That is a guess, but it is likely correct for California at least.
If you compare all buddy teams, I also suspect that well over 1 in 17 of all dives are solo.
The people that tend to solo, also tend to do far more dives pre year than non-solo divers average overall.
So is solo safer according to these statistics? It would be nice to have the rest of the data needed to say for sure, but it sorta does look like it. Anybody have the rest of the data?
