"The other missing piece was the application of DIR to open water sport diving. Jarrod mentioned a
time or two that the system worked in open water dives, but he left it at that."

yeah, the two times i've attended a 'dir' demo
(once last jan and another last march[???]),
i was also looking forward to a discussion re:specific
application of exclusive 'dir' to open water
diving (ie, shallower depth, better vis, rec diving
for cal) and why 'dir' was superior in this forum
than any other non-'dir' philosophy.

i, too, was disappointed when the issue always
seemed to turn to deco, deep, and wreck/tech
diving.

...i think when all is said and done, though,
you either dive the same way in shallower, abundant
vis, sightseeing conditions as you do in extremely
demanding, low vis, mission-oriented conditions, or
you don't and there's nothing more to add to it.
in other words, you apply 'dir' to all your diving
or you don't, but there's no special discussion
needed to "address" the needs of the rec diver
in the context of 'dir'. and those who don't dive
'dir' under non-demanding conditions do just as
fine worldwide.
