The Sue-Jac story is bogus. Didn't happen, although very amusing. (The "they-deserved-it" comment is a bit disturbing, but that's neither here nor there.)

The diver was treated at the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber on Saturday for an embolism. Said diver was released following treatment and flew back to the mainland on Sunday morning with the attending physician (usually for observation). Not known if there would be any follow-up treatments but many times with cases like this, IF there is need for follow-up recompression, it would have been done at Catalina.

It would seem that the scenario of this happening in the emergency ascent training portion of a basic class session is accurate, but I don't have that confirmed specifically.
