Private Boat to Catalina

Adm. Linda and I are thinking of bringing my 17' Boston Whaler to
So Cal in late August and early September. One possible
destination is Catalina, which prompted my earlier question about
Nitrox on Catalina.

We'd leave the boat on a mooring overnight, and stay on shore.

How do you arrange a mooring?

Where would you recommend we stay? Diver friendly of course.

Yes I recognize we'd need to pick our days to get over and back
with a boat that small, but I've got whaler buddys who've done it.
