I wasn't questioning the hardware management of DIR. I do indeed think it makes a lot of sense, both the primary and the back up routing, as DIR suggests (see, I take it as a suggestion).

My point was doubting the reason why the primary is the better reg to be donated (and that reason being because it is PROVEN to work, operative word being proven). Because this implies, that the back up is not proven to work, and that does not sound like DIR, to dive with a piece of gear that is not proven to work.

An additional AirII would only mean added failure points, and with a working back up, why do you need a third regulator?
