Clarifications:
'mainstream' as in Tech mainstream where application of approach has taken hold of a definitive portion (>20%) of market. Not to be misinterpreted as rec scuba market (my fault for not including vital input).
DIR now is almost about 'belonging'. Many young men flock to this like boyscouts. Its cool because these 'techie' bigshots who do 'big' dives stand up and porntificate and verbally abuse others (and that's really what attracts these guys...precisely the type that are against GUE/DIR mindset) The message is duelly lost (once with the chest beaters and again to the masses who refuse to listen when the messenger is so offensive). Alas it requires a strong constitution and an observational and analytical mindset to identify what the true benefits of the overall DIR system can be (many of the beholders don't really know and this has recently hurt DIR). DIR has now embraced the 'pack mentality' much like other forms have done...with the exception that those who really understand diving and diving philosophy are still retooling and have not shut off their minds.
