Mike;
Let me see if I have it right:
1) You lent Mike a rig which malfunctioned because he wasn't aware of how you had it rigged?
2) Mike was diving solo?
3) You're asking for reasons why a small pony would not have been beneficial?
If yes to all three, seems to me we're away from the issues DIR has with ponies. Sure, a small pony would have been better than nothing-provided it didn't cause a bigger problem by getting Mike hung up on kelp or something. But the DIR position on ponies assumes familiarity/uniformity with gear and buddy diving. The system only works as a whole. Examining/discussing pieces out of context never works. If you want to discuss the DIR position on ponies in context we can do that. Please advise.
