Just got off the phone with the director of Fish and Game. I had a very interesting thing happen this weekend.
I was on the back deck, when a diver came aboard with something in his game bad. I looked at it and thought no way. He pulled out a green abalone and asked me if it was legal. I told him, that you can't take abs, south of San Francisco. He then went to the back rail and started to throw it over board. Both Captain Don and myself yelled no. We told him to take it down the next dive and attach it to a rock on the bottom side and hold it there until it held on.
I do not know if he did this. Of course this a blatant violation of F & G. The problem is, how do I stop this from happening? The abalone is probable dead. The are hemophiliacs. If the diver cut the abalone, it in now dead.
A couple of months ago, a diver brought up a short halibut, and asked the same question. Now my question to you, is; how do I stop this?
