I am new to beach diving and before moving to CA I read two books about beach diving. Both of the books absolutely advised divers to have all their gear on before entering the water. This is not what can see on beaches. Actually I have never seen anybody to enter the water with fins and mask on. I am wondering what is the reason for this. Is it a fashion thing to march in to the ocean facing the waves? I guess it looks a bit funny to back up there. Which do you prefer and why? Isn't it a faster way to get behid the surf line if the fins are on when entering the water? I have got hammered by surf a couple of times when putting on my fins in the water. I guess its time to try the other way?
